Sandra "Sandy" Cheeks is a land squirrel from Texas who came to Bikini Bottom to do research on its inhabitants, and decided to stay there permanently. Sandy is one of SpongeBob's closest friends. Unlike most other characters in Bikini Bottom, Sandy is not a sea creature, and is able to survive underwater by wearing a suit and helmet similar to those used by astronauts. Sandy lives in an airtight terrarium known as the "Treedome". A scientist and inventor Sandy is one of the most intelligent creatures in Bikini Bottom..
